Overview
Sprawling across 125 hectares in central Madrid, El Retiro began as a private royal estate. The glass-and-iron Crystal Palace (Palacio de Cristal) is a stunning greenhouse-style pavilion now used by the Reina Sofia museum for exhibitions. Visitors row boats on the central lake, stroll the rose garden, and stop by sculptures like the famous Fallen Angel statue. The park was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2021. Free entry (Crystal Palace exhibitions also free). 3-minute walk from Metro L2 Retiro station.
Opening Hours
Open from 06:00 (closes 22:00 October-March, midnight April-September)
Travel Tips
