The Shambles, York

Overview

Originally the 1360s townhouse of Nostell Priory and later home to a wealthy merchant family, this building was excavated by the York Archaeological Trust in the 1980s and restored to its medieval appearance. Tucked down a narrow lane just behind The Shambles, it's fun to seek out, and visitors can touch furnishings and try on medieval costumes inside. Family-friendly hands-on activities are a highlight. Adult admission about GBP 7. 1-minute walk from The Shambles.
