Overview
Built in 1357 by York's merchant guild, this timber-framed hall has remained in near-original form for over 660 years, making it one of Europe's oldest surviving guildhalls. The Great Hall, framed by massive oak beams, once hosted medieval merchant gatherings and is still used today for ceremonies and events. The attached chapel and almshouse rooms trace the history of York's commerce and charitable works. Adult admission about GBP 7. 3-minute walk from The Shambles.
