Overview
Opened in 1984, the Jorvik Viking Centre is based on more than 40,000 Viking artifacts excavated at Coppergate between 1976 and 1981. The museum is built directly over the dig site, and a unique capsule ride carries visitors through a recreated Viking 'Jorvik' street from 866-1066, complete with sounds, smells, and figure tableaux. Every February, the surrounding streets host the Jorvik Viking Festival — Europe's largest Viking reenactment event. Admission about GBP 16. 3-minute walk from the Shambles.
Opening Hours
10:00-17:00 (until 18:00 April-October)
