Overview

Built in the 9th century, Borobudur is the world's largest Buddhist monument and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The pyramid-shaped structure made of about 2 million volcanic stone blocks features 2,672 relief panels, 504 Buddha statues, and 72 bell-shaped stupas at the top that create a breathtaking scene. The sunrise tour starting at 04:30 — watching the temple emerge from morning mist as the sun rises — is one of Indonesia's most iconic photo moments. General admission about IDR 350,000 (foreigners); sunrise tour about IDR 450,000. About 1 hour by car from Yogyakarta city.
