Overview
Built in 1755, the Kraton is the palace of the Yogyakarta Sultanate, where the current 10th Sultan, Hamengkubuwono X, actually resides — a living royal palace. Traditional Javanese pavilions and halls surround multiple courtyards, displaying royal artifacts, costumes, and instruments. Daily morning performances of gamelan music, wayang puppet theater, and Javanese dance let visitors experience court culture firsthand. Admission IDR 15,000. About 10 minutes on foot from Malioboro Street.
