Overview
Prambanan is Southeast Asia's largest Hindu temple complex, built during the 9th-century Mataram Kingdom and inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Over 240 temples make up the compound, with the central 47 m Shiva temple as the most imposing. The walls feature exquisite carvings of the Ramayana epic, and during the dry season (May-October) an open-air Ramayana Ballet performance runs in the evenings. Admission about IDR 350,000 (foreigners). About 20 minutes by car from Yogyakarta city.
