Overview
Built in 1601 during the reign of Elizabeth I, this star-shaped fort originally defended the city and later served as barracks and a prison. During the Irish Free State period after 1922, it also housed Irish troops. Perched on one of Cork's highest hills, the fort's ramparts offer sweeping views over the city, the River Lee, and the spires of St. Fin Barre's Cathedral.
