Overview
Operating since 1788, this covered market is the beating heart of Irish food culture. Local farmers and fishermen sell just-caught fish, fresh produce, artisan cheeses, smoked salmon and handmade breads. Queen Elizabeth II's 2011 visit gave it new fame. The Farmgate Cafe upstairs serves meals overlooking the market floor, where you can also try Cork specialties like tripe and drisheen (a blood pudding).
