Overview
A small island in the northern Venetian lagoon, Burano is famous for fishermen's houses painted in vivid reds, blues, yellows, and pinks - colors chosen so sailors could spot their homes through the fog. Burano lace, world-renowned since the 16th century, can be admired at the Lace Museum. The leaning San Martino bell tower rises about 53m, and sampling a local buranelli butter cookie with espresso is a treat. Free to visit. About 45 minutes on Vaporetto Line 12 from Fondamente Nove.
