Overview
Built between 1420 and 1434, this is a masterpiece of Venetian Gothic architecture, originally covered in gold leaf decoration that gave it the nickname 'House of Gold.' It features lace-like tracery windows and arches. In the early 20th century, Baron Giorgio Franchetti restored the palace and donated it along with his art collection to the state; it now operates as the Galleria Franchetti. Highlights include Mantegna's St. Sebastian and works by Titian and Van Dyck. Admission is about EUR 8, and the balcony overlooking the Grand Canal offers a superb view.
