Overview
Founded in 1478 in honor of St. Roch, patron saint against plague, this confraternity hall was built between 1515 and 1560. It is celebrated for roughly 60 large canvases painted by Tintoretto over about 23 years starting in 1564. Highlights include the Old and New Testament scenes covering the upper hall's ceiling and walls, and the monumental Crucifixion. Often called a Sistine Chapel of painting by art lovers, it represents a peak of Venetian Baroque art. Admission is about EUR 10.
