Overview
Next to Piazza San Marco, the Doge's Palace served for a thousand years as the residence of Venice's Doge and the seat of the Republic's government. A 14th-century Venetian Gothic masterpiece, its striped exterior in pink Verona marble and white Istrian stone is iconic. Inside lie Tintoretto's 'Paradise' (the world's largest canvas painting), Veronese's ceiling frescoes, the Golden Staircase, and the four Doges' chambers. Cross the Bridge of Sighs to the old prisons where Casanova once escaped from the Piombi cells. Admission about EUR 30 (combined St. Mark's museum ticket). On the east side of Piazza San Marco.
