Overview

Built in 1992 for the 10th anniversary of Naha's friendship with Fuzhou, using materials and craftsmen brought from China, this Jiangnan-style garden rings its pond with pavilions, stone bridges and a waterfall. It stands in Kume, where Fuzhou immigrants settled in the Ryukyu era — five centuries of China-Okinawa exchange condensed into one garden. Just 30 minutes added to a Kokusai Street day, with weekend-evening illuminations.
