Overview
This 4.7km causeway runs from Uruma on the main island to four outer isles — Henza, Miyagi, Ikei and Hamahiga. Built on shallow flats rather than raised as a bridge, it keeps you nearly at water level with sea on both sides, an oddly liberating drive. Park at the midway roadside station to take in the bay; beyond lie Hamahiga's creation-deity shrines and Ikei's crystal-clear beach. At low tide, locals clam the flats beside the road.
