Overview
Meemure is a small village of about 420 people tucked deep in the Knuckles range on the border of the Kandy and Matale districts, considered one of Sri Lanka's most remote traditional villages. Electricity arrived late, preserving old rural Sri Lankan ways of life, and the village is surrounded by terraced paddies, waterfalls, and mountain trekking routes popular with hikers. Homestays let visitors experience local life overnight. About 3-4 hours by car and on foot from Kandy.
Travel Tips
The final stretch is on foot only - bring trekking shoes. Booking a homestay offers a deeper taste of local food and culture.
