Overview
Kandalama Lake (reservoir) is an ancient irrigation tank, its tranquil jungle-fringed setting a striking scene. On the cliff overlooking the lake sits the Heritance Kandalama, a heritage hotel designed by renowned Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa, well known among architecture enthusiasts. Canoe tours on the lake let visitors spot fish eagles, crocodiles, and other wildlife, with sunset canoe tours especially popular. About 30 minutes by car from Sigiriya.
