Overview
Near Matale, Nalanda Gedige is an 8th-10th century stone temple built at what's considered the geographical center of Sri Lanka. Its structure uniquely blends Hindu and Buddhist architectural styles, and the base features intricate carvings showing influence from South India's Pallava dynasty. Though small in scale, its rare architectural style gives it significant academic value. Free admission. About 1 hour by car from Sigiriya.
