Overview
Painted on a sheltered rock face partway up the fortress, the Sigiriya Frescoes are about 1,500 years old. Originally numbering around 500, about 22 survive today. The bare-shouldered female figures - interpreted variously as queens, attendants, or celestial apsaras - retain remarkably vivid colors. Widely regarded as masterpieces of ancient Sri Lankan art, they're an essential stop on the climb. Included in the Sigiriya Rock Fortress admission. Located partway up the climb.
