Overview
Chichen Itza, on the Yucatan Peninsula, is one of the great Maya cities and a New Seven Wonders of the World. The 30 m Kukulkan Pyramid (El Castillo) is famed for its astronomical design: at the spring and autumn equinoxes, a serpent-shaped shadow slithers down its staircase. The site also features the Temple of the Warriors, the Caracol observatory, and a large ancient ball court. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it showcases the Maya's remarkable architecture and astronomy.
