Coba Ruins

Cobá, Quintana Roo

Overview

Coba is a Late Classic Maya city still being excavated from dense jungle, once home to more than 50,000 people - one of the Yucatan's largest ancient cities. The 42m Nohoch Mul pyramid is the tallest Maya structure on the peninsula; climbing was allowed until 2020 but is now restricted for preservation. Because the ruins are spread over a wide area, visitors typically rent bicycles or bike-taxis (tricycles) to explore between structures in the jungle. Admission MXN 90. About 2 hours 20 minutes by car from Cancun (via Tulum).

Opening Hours

Daily 08:00-17:00

Travel Tips

Renting a bike (about MXN 60) makes exploring far easier than walking. Jungle mosquitoes are common, so bring insect repellent.
