Isla Holbox

Holbox, Quintana Roo

Overview

Isla Holbox, a small island off the northern tip of the Yucatan Peninsula, has a laid-back vibe with no cars - only golf carts and bicycles. White-sand beaches, shallow turquoise water, and colorfully muraled village streets make it an Instagram favorite, and on summer nights bioluminescent plankton glow blue in the waves. From May to September, whale shark snorkeling is available offshore, and nearby islands draw flamingos and pelicans. Reached from Cancun by road (about 2 hours) then ferry (about 25 minutes). Round-trip ferry about MXN 320.
