Overview
Tulum is the only Maya ruin built directly on the coast, about 130km south of Cancun. Around 60 structures sit preserved atop 12m Caribbean cliffs, with El Castillo and the Temple of the Frescoes the most famous. A small beach below the ruins lets you combine archaeology with a swim - a uniquely Mexican experience. The emerald water and white sand backdrop make for one of Mexico's iconic images. Admission MXN 90. About 2 hours by car from Cancun.
