Valladolid

Valladolid, Yucatán

Overview

Founded in 1543, Valladolid is a classic Yucatan colonial town and one of Mexico's officially designated 'Pueblos Mágicos' (Magical Towns). Pastel-colored buildings surround the central plaza, with the San Servacio Cathedral and Calzada de los Frailes street preserving well-kept Spanish colonial architecture. Right in the town center sits Cenote Zaci, letting visitors swim in a cenote without even leaving downtown, and the local market is known for Maya embroidery and Panama hats. It's also a perfect midpoint stop between Chichen Itza and Ek Balam. Free to stroll. About 2 hours by car from Cancun.
