Overview
Isla Mujeres is a tiny island (7km long, 650m wide) just a 20-minute ferry ride from Cancun, whose name means 'Island of Women.' Playa Norte on the north end is ranked among the Caribbean's most beautiful beaches, with shallow turquoise water and fine white sand. At the southern tip, Punta Sur features ruins of a temple to the Maya goddess Ixchel and a cliff sculpture park. Rent a golf cart to circle the whole island in half a day, and whale shark snorkeling (June-September) is a popular activity. Round-trip ferry about MXN 300-400. Ultramar ferries depart from Puerto Juarez in Cancun's Hotel Zone, taking about 20 minutes.
