Overview
Built in the 12th century, this church has two levels: a Romanesque lower chapel and a Neo-Gothic upper chapel. It is said to house a relic of the Holy Blood of Christ, brought back by the Count of Flanders during the Second Crusade. The annual Procession of the Holy Blood (Heilig-Bloedprocessie) in May, a tradition dating to the Middle Ages, is recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage. The relic is displayed at set times each day.
