't Zand Square

't Zand, Bruges

Overview

At 1.5 hectares, 't Zand is Bruges's largest square, built on the site of the city's first 19th-century train station. The dominant red building is the Concertgebouw concert hall, opened in 2002 to mark Bruges's year as European Capital of Culture, and some 150 linden trees create a green resting spot in the city center. Every Saturday morning, a large open-air market takes over the square — a great chance to see local life. Free to visit. 10-minute walk from Markt Square.
