Overview
The Bruges Béguinage was founded in 1245 by Countess Margaret of Flanders and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. White-walled convent buildings surround a tranquil tree-lined courtyard; in spring, blooming daffodils create a fairy-tale scene. Originally home to beguines (single religious women), it is now occupied by Benedictine nuns. The Beguine's House museum shows what daily life was like. Courtyard free; museum about EUR 2. 10-minute walk from Bruges station.
Opening Hours
Courtyard: daily 06:30-18:30. Museum: Mon-Sat 10:00-17:00, Sun 14:30-17:00.
Travel Tips
