Overview
Founded in 1903, the Deutsches Museum is one of the world's largest science and technology museums, occupying its own small island (Museumsinsel) on the Isar River. Around 50 exhibition halls house some 28,000 objects spanning aviation, space travel, mining, computing, musical instruments, and chemistry, with many hands-on interactive displays that make it a family favorite. Highlights include Germany's first submarine U1, early Benz automobiles, and Wright-brothers-era aircraft. Sister sites — the Verkehrszentrum (transport museum) and Flugwerft Schleißheim (aviation museum) — round out the collection.
