Overview
Nicknamed 'Alter Peter' (Old Peter), this is Munich's oldest church, believed to date back to the 12th century — even before Munich existed as a city. The current Gothic-Baroque hybrid structure was rebuilt across the 14th and 18th centuries, and its interior houses the jewel-adorned remains of Saint Mundita. The 92-meter tower has no elevator — visitors must climb 306 narrow wooden steps — but the summit rewards with arguably Munich's best view, overlooking Marienplatz and the New Town Hall, with the Alps visible on clear days. Right next to Marienplatz, it pairs naturally with a Glockenspiel visit.
