Overview
Built for the 1972 Summer Olympics, Olympiapark spans 85 hectares and is instantly recognizable for the sweeping tent-shaped acrylic-glass roof designed by architect Frei Otto, which still shelters the Olympic Stadium, hall, and swimming pool today. Beyond the sports venues, the park's man-made hill — built from WWII rubble — offers panoramic views, and the artificial lake makes for a scenic picnic and paddleboat spot. The 291-meter Olympiaturm (Olympic Tower) has long been a Munich landmark, though it has been closed for renovation since June 2024 and is expected to reopen in 2027.
