Overview
Begun in 1869 by Bavaria's 'Fairy-Tale King' Ludwig II, Neuschwanstein is a Romantic-style castle and the real-world inspiration for Disney's Sleeping Beauty Castle. Set on a clifftop against the Alps, it looks like a scene from a storybook, and its interiors burst with decor inspired by Wagner's operas.
