Overview
Founded in 1217, this is Barcelona's most famous market, officially called Mercat de Sant Josep. Entering directly from Las Ramblas, you find endless stalls of colorful juices, fresh Iberian ham, seafood, nuts, spices, and cheese. The mosaic entrance is an Instagram favorite, and small bars inside (El Quim, Pinotxo) serve tapas made from the market's freshest ingredients. Eating at a counter alongside locals at lunch is the most authentic Barcelona experience. Free entry. Right at Metro Liceu (Line 3).
Opening Hours
Mon-Sat 08:00-20:30 (closed Sundays)
Travel Tips
Skip the tourist-friendly stalls near the entrance - the small bars deeper inside offer far better value. Closed Sundays; Monday mornings are freshest.
