Overview
Built in the 14th century, this church is said to have been funded by merchants and sailors who worked Barcelona's port, and is celebrated as a masterpiece of Catalan Gothic architecture for its wide, tall column spacing and understated structural beauty rather than heavy ornamentation. It was also the setting for the novel 'Cathedral of the Sea.' It's a 5-minute walk from Jaume I station (Metro L4, yellow line), and pairs well with a visit to the Boqueria Market or the Gothic Quarter.
