Overview
This 762mm narrow-gauge railway crosses the fish pond area of Hortobagy National Park, originally built to manage the ponds and transport supplies, and now also running tourist trains. It's known as the only fishery railway in Europe operated with locomotives, and riders can observe waterfowl and wetland ecosystems up close along the route. Spring and autumn migration seasons bring a variety of birds, making it popular with birdwatchers too. About 40 minutes by car from Debrecen. Round-trip fare about HUF 1,500-2,500.
