Overview
Founded around 393, it is one of Florence's oldest churches, rebuilt by Brunelleschi in the 15th century to establish the Early Renaissance architectural style. Its plain, unfinished facade contrasts with the harmonious, well-proportioned interior; Donatello's bronze pulpits and his tomb are also here. The Laurentian Library (designed by Michelangelo) and the Medici Chapels adjoin the complex. Admission about EUR 9 for the church alone; combined tickets with the chapels and library offer a discount.
Travel Tips
Right next to San Lorenzo Market, so it pairs well with shopping. Knowing why the facade was never finished makes the visit more interesting.
