Overview
Perched on a hill south of the Arno, this is Florence's premier viewpoint, offering a sweeping panorama of the Duomo, Palazzo Vecchio, Ponte Vecchio, and Santa Croce. Designed by architect Giuseppe Poggi in 1869, the square features a bronze replica of Michelangelo's David at its center. The golden sunset over the Florentine skyline is one of Italy's most beautiful scenes — locals enjoy it with a glass of wine in hand. Free to visit. About a 25-minute uphill walk from Santa Croce, or Bus 12/13.
