Overview

Designed by Giuseppe Mengoni, the architect behind Milan's Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, this cast-iron market opened in 1874 as Florence's largest indoor market. The ground floor houses traditional stalls selling fresh meat, cheese, and produce, while the renovated (2016) upper floor is a lively food hall serving pizza, pasta, gelato, and more. It sits next to the San Lorenzo street market, and admission is free.
