Overview
Built for the 1989 Asia-Pacific Expo, this 234m broadcast tower is Japan's tallest by the sea. Its triangular shaft of 8,000 half-mirror panels reflects the sky, and the 123m observation deck opens 270 degrees over Momochi beach, Hakata Bay and the city. Unlike inland towers, you get the sun setting into the sea followed by night views in one visit; seasonal illuminations turn the whole facade into a light show, and there's the requisite love-padlock corner.
