This 1km artificial beach, laid out on the 1989 expo grounds, puts your feet in the sea just 30 minutes from downtown. The European-style Marizon complex (restaurants and a wedding chapel) juts into the water at its center; summers bring swimmers and beach volleyball. Fukuoka Tower, the Fukuoka City Museum (home of the National Treasure gold seal) and the PayPay Dome are all walkable, making this the anchor of a half-day western-waterfront route.
