Overview
Fukuoka is Japan's yatai capital, home to more than half the country's street stalls; each evening about 20 light up along the Nakasu riverside. The fun is squeezing into 8-10 seats, chatting with the owner and neighbors over tonkotsu ramen, yakitori, oden and gyoza. Budget JPY 1,500-2,500 per stall and hop between two or three. The neon reflected across the river is the classic Fukuoka night shot; the Tenjin side's Showa-dori has plenty of stalls too.
