Begun around 1918 as a fish peddlers' row, this 100m arcade now holds some 40 fishmongers, mentaiko specialists, grocers and deli stalls. True to its 'Hakata's Kitchen' nickname, chefs shop here; mentaiko shops offer tastings and vacuum-packed take-home. The market's small eateries serve bargain kaisendon and set meals from the morning's catch — best visited between breakfast and lunch.
