Overview
Founded in 711, Fushimi Inari is the head shrine of around 30,000 Inari shrines across Japan. Its Senbon Torii (Thousand Torii) path of roughly 10,000 vermilion gates winds up Mt. Inari and is world-famous. The full round trip to the summit takes 2-3 hours, with viewpoints over Kyoto along the way. As the deity of commerce and agriculture, it draws many wishing for business prosperity. Free admission. Directly at JR Inari Station on the Nara Line.

Travel Tips
Visit at dawn or dusk for fewer crowds and a more mystical mood. You needn't reach the summit; the Yotsutsuji viewpoint partway up is enough.
