Overview
Named after Kyoto University philosopher Nishida Kitaro, who walked this path daily in contemplation, the Philosopher's Walk is a roughly 2km canal-side path lined with about 450 cherry trees, making it one of Kyoto's premier cherry blossom spots in spring. It runs from Ginkaku-ji to Nanzen-ji, passing small cafes, galleries, and temples along the way — perfect for a slow stroll soaking up Kyoto's atmosphere. Free to walk. A 3-minute walk from the Ginkakuji-michi bus stop.
Travel Tips
Weekends during cherry blossom season are very crowded — weekday mornings are best. The small cafes along the way are great for a break.
