Overview
Founded in 778, Kiyomizu-dera is one of Kyoto's most iconic temples, famous for its 13m-high wooden stage built entirely without nails. A Japanese proverb about 'jumping from the stage of Kiyomizu' symbolizes firm resolve. The nighttime illuminations during cherry blossom and autumn foliage seasons are magical. Below the main hall, the Otowa waterfall's three streams are said to grant wishes for studies, love, and longevity. Admission JPY 400. Take bus 100 or 206 from Kyoto Station.
