Overview
Museum and garden on the villa grounds of the Owari Tokugawa, the branch founded by Ieyasu's ninth son. The museum is a global rarity — a daimyo family's heritage passed down intact — holding some 10,000 works including the National Treasure Tale of Genji illustrated scrolls, plus swords, tea utensils and bridal trousseaux. Adjacent Tokugawaen is a classic pond-centered daimyo garden with waterfalls and streams, famed for spring peonies, early-summer irises and its late-autumn maple illumination. With the Hosa Library's rare books next door, it makes a rich half-day of culture.
