Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology

Nishi-ku, Nagoya

Overview

Housed in the 1911 red-brick mill where the Toyoda Automatic Loom Works began, this is one of Japan's great industrial museums. In the textile hall, machines from Sakichi Toyoda's wooden hand loom to screaming air-jet looms run live demonstrations; the automobile pavilion stages real presses, welding robots and assembly rigs. It is monozukuri — Japanese craftsmanship — made tangible, and adults often rate it Nagoya's best sight. Follow the demo timetable and half a day disappears.
