Overview
Built in 1908 in the Pettah district, the Jami Ul-Alfar Mosque (Red Mosque) is Colombo's most famous Islamic monument, its red-and-white striped facade and onion domes embodying Indo-Saracenic architecture. Rising above the surrounding Pettah Market, it makes for a great stop during market shopping, and the exterior alone is wonderfully photogenic. Non-Muslims may enter outside prayer times. Free admission (donations welcome). In the heart of Pettah Market.
