Overview
Seema Malaka is a distinctive Buddhist temple built on Beira Lake, used more for meditation and quiet reflection than formal worship. Originally constructed in the 19th century, it was destroyed by flooding and rebuilt in a modern style in 1976 by renowned Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa. Reached via a wooden walkway over the water, its Buddha statues spread across three small pavilions create a meditative mood against the still lake. A hidden gem of calm in the city center. Admission about LKR 300. A 10-minute walk from Galle Face Green.
