Overview
Built in 1984, the Grand Friday Mosque (Islamic Centre) is the largest mosque in the Maldives, its golden dome an emblem of Male's skyline. It can hold 5,000 worshipers and features intricate Arabic calligraphy and wood carving. Funded with support from Pakistan, Brunei, and Malaysia, it is the country's Islamic hub; Friday prayers spill out into the surrounding streets. Free admission (guide required).
